Thread Vein treatment

Thread veins are veins that appear on the surface of the skin, typically on the legs or around the face. Thread veins tend to appear in small groups and they look different to other types of veins, such as varicose veins.

Thread veins, while harmless, can sometimes be painful and you may feel a burning sensation if you are on your feet for a long time. Another name for thread veins is telangiectasia and they can make you ache and itch.

Thread veins can be removed using non-invasive treatments that offer our patients personalised procedures that ensure the patient is comfortable and that deliver results.

We focus our services on patient outcomes and we aim to meet your expectations in everything we do, from our vein removal Derby consultations to our results.

We make the processes easy to understand and convenient, so that they work with your timetable – and we believe a speedy recovery is just as important as a precision treatment.

Thread veins can be painful and unsightly, but treatment is fast and effective. Book your consultation today to discuss your treatment.

Spider Veins

Spider veins are so-called because they present on the skin, looking like a spider’s web. Spider veins arise because of irregularities in vein structures are more apparent, because they are closer to the skin’s surface and can be seen as either blue or red in colour. The irregularities are not dangerous in themselves, but they have developed because the valves in the veins have weakened over time. Weakened valves mean that blood can collect and dilate in the veins. It is suggested that spider veins happen as a result of sun exposure, a genetic disposition to vein issues or a change or changes in hormones. Spider veins can also be hereditary.

Although both men and women will experience spider veins, greater hormonal flux and change within women mean that they are simply more prone to spider veins.

Because spider veins tend to be unsightly, rather than painful or problematic, they often go untreated. However, spider veins can grow and could turn into a bigger issue down the line. We work with our patients to understand their vein health and so we use ultrasound imaging to assess the situation. Once we – and the patient- have a better understanding of the health of the veins, we can better assess and treat efficiently.

When it comes to the treatment of spider veins, it could be that they are examined early in their development.

Microsclerotherapy is a well proven safe treatment for thread veins and has been used for many years. A tiny needle is used to inject small amounts of liquid into the veins. This liquid causes irritation of the wall lining of the vein causing it to collapse, the vein is then reabsorbed by the body.

The veins do not disappear straight away, this can take a few weeks. You will notice that the veins will look worse initially as the treatment starts to work, during this time you will need to wear support stockings. Depending on the size and amount of thread veins you have will determine how many treatments you will need to completely treat the area. Some patients can have a combination of thermavein and microsclerotherapy treatments to get the best results.

Treatments are carried out at approximately 6 week internals, so plan for the total package of care to take around 3-6 months.

It’s important to talk through your options with your consultant – they will be able to assess which treatment will suit you best sand also rule out any other underlying issues that may be of concern.

Our vein removal Derby consultants offer personalised targeted treatment plans that will treat the issue in its entirety.
